Name              Original name Wirraway, changed in 1998 to Gone Troppo for Australian Ship Registration.      

 

Launched        September 1986

Design             Crowther Windspeed 36 catamaran

Builder            Multihull Yacht Services, Geoff Cruise, to basic hull and deck stage. Then completed by qualified builders with the assistance of original owner.

Construction    Foam Sandwich. Divinicell with S glass and Kevlar. Polymer Chemicals and West System epoxy resin. Oregon and marine ply main and aft beams. Marine ply bridgedeck bulkheads.

Spars              Forty six foot fully rotating Alcan A8 mast with double diamond stays. Fractional rig with two shrouds and forestay. Graham rigging screws on spreaders, Sta-lok on stays.  A6 boom.

Sails                Fully battened Dacron main with three slab reefs which fall into lazy jacks. Area 450 sq ft.

                         Bamar furler. Jibs, #2. Area 234 sq ft. And a #3.

                        Gennaker on a RollGen, loose luff.

Running

Rigging           New 1998 . Pre-stretched Liros Dacron rope. Main Halyard new 2010.

Rigging          New 2005. 10mm stainless wire

 

Winches           Maxwell. 3 x no 24. 1 x no 23. 2 x no 20.

                        Plastimo manual anchor winch. Lofrans electric anchor winch controlled from helm position with an AutoAnchor.

Engines           A Yanmar 2GM20 diesel in each hull drives a 14" 3 bladed Hydralign feathering propeller. Fuel capacity approx 120 lt. Average fuel consumption one lt per hour per motor. Max speed under both engines approx 7 knots, 4 knots under one. Cruise 5 knots.

Electric’s         Engine driven alternators charge a 12 volt battery bank 500AH. Solar panels (400w) provide main means of charging.

Refrigeration   12v/240v Refridgeration Research cooling 140 lt chest cabinet with 120mm insulation.

Instruments      Navman log & sounder, Autohelm 4000 wheelpilot, Icom VHF, Pioneer Stereo, GPS Garmin 152H, Anritsu RA772 Radar. Kenwood HF with Pactor. Plus more..

Anchors           One 35 lb Buegelanchor with 60 metres of 8mm short link chain and 30 metres of 12mm nylon rope.

                        One 45 lb Buegelanchor with 10 metres of 10mm short link chain and 30 metres of 16mm nylon rope.

                        One stainless grapnel reef anchor with 8 metres of chain.

                        Two 120 metre rolls of 12mm nylon rope.

  One 12 foot Para-Anchor with one 100 metre roll of 14mm octoplait nylon rope with half inch swivel.

Steering            Pull-pull system with 30" diameter wheel.  The system is very light with only one turn lock to lock. 

Water               Approximately 400 lt stored in four under floor tanks in hulls. Water is pumped from theses tanks to a central header tank. Rain collection area has been built in to deck. A PUR 40E provides desalinated water to header tank.

Storage          Apart from lockers in accommodation spaces there is a large volume of storage in four lockers in space between the forward sleeping cabins. The two larger lockers have a volume of 33 cubic feet, while the two smaller have approx quarter this volume.

Access             By duckboard over the stern.

                        This proved invaluable when rescuing 5 men in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Ventilation       Through 5 Vetus(new 2013) and 2 Lewmar hatches. Plus through anchor and sail lockers to double bunks.

Tender             Inflatable powered by 2HP Yamaha.

Ownership        We purchased the boat in January 1998 from original owner.

                        Survey conducted prior to purchase put value at AUD$160000. All faults/suggestions pointed out by surveyor

                        were repaired/done before we took delivery.
